Hiphophuis and The Notorious IBE grew up together, with roots in the same city, in the same community. IBE’s office is housed within Hiphophuis, and legend has it that Aruna and Tyrone are the only two who have never missed an edition of the festival.

For ten years now, Hiphophuis has been programming within the festival, with the aim of normalising critical thinking within the international dance community and putting social equality on the agenda. Through this collaboration, Hiphophuis also brings women’s leadership firmly into the festival, both on and off stage. An approach that has taken solid root within IBE over the past years.

For the 2025 edition, Hiphophuis invited collaboration partner Munganyende to reimagine the PowerTalk concept, resulting in To Pimp A Butterfly. Built on Hiphophuis’ own family recipe, Power Talks (since 2017), this new format adds a few fresh ingredients: each session opens with a powertalk of a 300-second slideshow by a heavyweight from the field, followed by an intimate round-table conversation at the powertalk tables. In 2025, four talks formed the core: Patta Talk, Real Talk, Legacy Talk, and Future Talk, with Aruna opening both days with her Note on Past Tense, on the importance of the now and what’s next in hip-hop. Speakers included Edson Sabajo, LaTasha Barnes, Allef, Sophie May, Mark Kaweesi, and Peacky Rock.

This year, we’re bringing that line back to the festival with a programme full of making, conversation, and celebration.

To Pimp A Butterfly: PowerTalk w/ Heartbreakerz
Ten years after the legendary Heartbreak Hotel, the Miami-bred, globally based crew returns to IBE where they once shook things up by celebrating the outcasts and raw talent that hip-hop needed, opening doors for badass pioneers who happened to be women and queer.
