Youth Is The Truth

Hot off the press! In the coming years, ELJA Foundation will be the main partner of the 'Youth is the Truth' project. The goal of the project is for young people aged 5-18 to develop artistically and personally and become part of a community. In addition to expanding activities at the main location of the Hiphophuis in the center of Rotterdam, we are working on the development of programs with partners like Gravel Pit, a collaboration with Menno van Gorp, Olympic breakdancer and global community leader in Rotterdam South.

‘Youth is the Truth’ kicks off this month. Stay tuned!"

Dancing on the shoulders of giants

In hip-hop’s fiftieth anniversary year, we produced the documentary 'Dancing on the Shoulders of Giants.' This documentary connects 150 years of Keti Koti, the abolition of slavery in Suriname, with the birth of hip-hop exactly 100 years later. The documentary highlights how hip-hop has found a home in various places, including Hiphophuis and Surinamese welfare and community centers.

For The Culture

Hiphop is a revolutionary movement that emerged among Black and Brown teenagers in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York. It includes rapping, DJing, graffiti art, and breakdancing, and serves as a powerful form of self-expression and social commentary. Hip-hop is now a global phenomenon and continues to influence music, fashion, language, and lifestyle, while inspiring new generations around the world.
