Franky Sticks

BACKGROUND
Franky was all about music since he was a kid…he’d use cassettes to record music from television and radio, and can even recall his very first “gig” when he was about 10 years old. He used his collection of cassettes to play at a school party: a future as a DJ was basically written in the stars.
At 17 years old is when things got serious though…he got into turntablism, and would spend hours upon hours experimenting & practicing. He heard Optimus was giving classes at Hiphophuis and it was over for everybody: Franky could be found every single Thursday taking all the DJ classes from 5 to 10 PM. That’s when he knew for certain that DJing is what he wanted. He played parties here and there, but 3 years later he booked his first official club gig at Bird.

COMMUNITY
According to Franky it’s a diverse community with lots of subgroups. The scene is growing quickly, and every week there is another DJ he sees playing or hears about, which is dope if you are someone who is into change and innovation.
At the same time the community in Rotterdam feels pretty close knit: it’s all about like-minded individuals, inspiring each other, and working together because at the end of the day you do need each other.
As he puts it: “We’re all just a bunch of nerds who like music.”

WHY HHH?
“Because Hiphophuis is a place I’m truly grateful for: it’s where I started, where I found my passion, a community & a family. It’s a full circle moment for me going from taking the classes, to now sharing the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired with others.”
